GNS3 could run it's VM server with Windows Hyper-V, which is convenient since Hyper-V is available by default on the latest version of Windows 11.

Follow that guide to install and start GNS3 VM Hyper-V virtual machine on your computer.

Do Not Have Permission

After start the GNS3 VM server by following the guide, you may found that the VM still doesn't working, concretely, you make found that:

• When choosing Hyper-V VM options in GNS3 preference, no available VM appeared for you to choose.
• GNS3 showing you the error, complaining current account doesn't have permission to scan Hyper-V VMs.
• Could only set Hyper-V preference and using that Hyper-V server while running GNS3 as administrator.

These type of issue is usually caused by insufficient permission of currently logged in account, or to be simple, that is because the current user running GNS3 are not Hyper-V administrator.

Knowing this, the solution will be quite straight-forward: just add your user account into Hyper-V administrator group by following step:

1. Search and open "Computer Management"
2. Find Hyper-V administrator group, add your current account into that group.
3. Done! Restart your computer than try using that VM in GNS3! (Also check the VM is started before using it)
